Pellets guides

How to choose wood pellets

Good pellets are dry, hard and produce little dust. Look for a smooth, shiny surface and a clean wood smell.

Check the stove or boiler manual: most require 6 mm pellets. Ask the seller for moisture and ash content before buying.

How to store pellets

Keep bags on a pallet in a dry, covered place, off the ground and away from walls that may be damp.

Wet pellets swell and break down, so open one bag at a time and close it again after use.

How many pellets do you need?

Usage depends on the house, insulation and stove. Many homes use between 2 and 5 tonnes per heating season.

Buying by the pallet before winter avoids running out when demand is high.
